The 2008 Summer Contests!!

Ah, summer. Sitting by the lake, reading a book. Sitting at the beach, reading a book. Sitting on the porch, reading a book. Sitting... You get the idea.

Summer. Books. They go together. I'll be writing one and playing with ideas for the next one. I have my summer work all planned and scheduled and I'm good to go. The autumn, not so much. So here's your chance to participate! Two summer-long contests, two chances to be part of the autumn book!

The fine print: Both contests run from Monday, June 2, 2008 to Sunday, August 31, 2008. Winners will be announced on my site and via e-mail on September 15, 2008. Any entries received after midnight August 31, 2008 AST will be discarded. Any entries without an age statement declaring that the entrant is 18 years of age or older will be discarded. The winners must sign a release form attesting to what they have won, that they understood they were allowing me to use their name or their title without any monetary payment, and indemnifying Chris Owen, Torquere Press and their affiliates of any claims not outlined in the release.

The Contests!

Name the book for me!

I have no idea what it's about, and no idea who's going to be in it. Here's what I do know: It will be set in modern times, be contemporary and a romance/drama. It will not be fantasy/vampire/sci-fi/spec. It will be male/male.

That's it. Your job: Send me titles. If I use your title you get a copy of the book and an acknowledgment.

How to enter: Send an e-mail to chrisowen.net at gmail.com with the subject: Title Contest. In the body, list your titles and a statement that you are 18 years of age or older. Please use a valid e-mail address that I'll be able to reach you at in September.

Be in the book!

Lend me your name, your look, your job! If you win this contest you will get a minor character named for you. Maybe the character will have your job, too, or maybe your favorite sweater. Who knows? I don't! You tell me!

What I promise: Not to make a character named for you into a homophobic ass. I promise that if I use your name the character will make at least one appearance (hopefully more, but I'm not about to tell my creative muse what to do at this point in the game. It's not like it ever listens, anyway). I do not promise to actually make the character YOU, as I don't know you and can't really promise to manage such a feat. But the character will have your name and a few of your characteristics.

In September I'll announce the winners and send a questionnaire with such things at "What is your name?", which is a very important question. Also "What's your job, what do you like to eat, what's your hair color, do you like office furniture" and such things.

If you win, you get a character named for you, an acknowledgement, and a copy of the book.

How to enter: Send me an e-mail at chrisowen.net at gmail.com with the subject: Character Contest. Write me an essay of at least 250 words (about half a page) telling me why I should pick you. Sell yourself! DO NOT send me personal information at this stage. If your name is awesome and that's why you want me to use it, that's one thing, but please don't share your name and address yet; if you win, I'll be begging for the information. Please include a statement that you are 18 years of age or older. Please use a valid e-mail address that I'll be able to reach you at in September.

Ready? Summer is here. I'll be over on the porch, reading a book.

Good luck!
